There is large amount of ritualistic behavior in hockey ranging from pre-game rituals to rituals that take place during the game. Pre-game rituals may include but are not limited to: a certain way of lacing up skates, wearing a particular pair of socks or even eating a certain food. Players are not the only ones who preform pre-game rituals many fans do as well. There is the belief that these rituals will enhance the performance of the player or team. Without the performance of these rituals players may feel that they will have an “off” or “bad” game. Many fans have rituals for watching the game, whether it is watching the game at a certain place like a sports bar or wearing their team’s jersey at home while watching the game.
