For most hockey fans, they have a team that they consider “theirs”. The majority of hockey fans know some if not all of the players on their favorite team, the coaches, and even when their upcoming games are. Fans often pay large amounts of money to see their team play on home ice, especially if their favorite team is in another province. Hockey fans demonstrate loyalty to their particular team, which often creates rivalry amongst opposing teams. Like the feud between many Protestants and Catholics, there is a well-known rivalry between the Montreal Canadians and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and fans exhibit this competition. Supporters of hockey in many cases demonstrate the ideologies that their team instills. For example, if a team is known to be good sports and team players, a particular fan may be drawn to that team because of their own similar beliefs.
